As part of a new Scheme by the NHS, Change4Life has started a new Sugar Smart campaign. Obesity is a health problem that affects a lot of people around the world. This is mainly caused due to the lack of knowledge of the sugar content in foods.
For a child, the maximum daily amount of sugar that a 4 – 6 year old child is meant to have is 19 grams which is equivalent to 5 sugar cubes. Children have been consuming over 3 times that amount and it can affect their health greatly.
Even adults should not consume more than 30 grams of sugar a day. This is equivalent to 7 sugar cubes. As part of this new campaign, a new app has been created for your own purpose to show you how much sugar is in the food you are eating. Having too much sugar in your diet can cause:
- Weight gain
- Type 2 diabetes
- Heart disease
- Some cancers
